The Leverkusen Jazz Days are among the top tier of jazz festivals in Europe and are Germany’s largest and most prestigious festival. Over 20,000 visitors flock to Leverkusen every year to experience the unique atmosphere first-hand. From Ray Charles to Jamie Cullum, so many big names have graced the stage in Leverkusen and have become fans of this festival in the process. The programme is increasingly opening up to all manner of jazz styles and fusions, ranging from singer-songwriters to rap and hip-hop.
“Music is our future, singing is the expression of humanity’s intelligence, and jazz is ambivalent curiosity.” Whoever said that, it’s true. The Jazztage have been reinventing themselves time and again since 1980. Not least thanks to the Futuresounds. This nationally significant and most successful jazz award for musicians under 35 has become an indispensable part of the Jazztage. All of this fills us in Leverkusen with pride.
